About the project
The challenge
The client ran a ten-year-old Magento store on 2.4.6-p2 selling new and used F1 scale models, and wanted the whole thing rebuilt on Shopify without losing any of the functionality the business depended on. An earlier developer had started the migration and left it unfinished, so the work began by establishing exactly what already worked in Magento and what still had to be matched.
Our solution
A complete Shopify setup with the data migrated across, built to a deliberate constraint: configuration over code. The brief asked for a free theme and free apps wherever possible, with anything paid raised for approval rather than assumed, and custom development only where a setting genuinely could not do the job. That keeps the running cost down and leaves a store the owner can maintain without a developer on retainer.
Process
- Audited the existing Magento 2.4.6-p2 store to establish exactly what had to be matched
- Migrated products, customers and order history using Matrixify
- Built the storefront on a free theme, configured rather than rewritten
- Raised every paid app as a decision for the client instead of installing it
- Set up business email working in both a desktop client and the Gmail mobile app
- Rebuilt the owner’s SQL sales and product reports as Shopify reporting
- Tested page by page against the live Magento site before switching over
